St Merryn Foods, Bodmin Beef Carcase Show

St Merryn’s nineteenth Annual Beef Carcase Show at Bodmin was held on 3rd of December with a record 195 carcass entered.

The overall winner was Mr Peter Phillips of Modbury, Devon, with his heavy steer. The Charolais cross was classified as an E3 and weighed 390.6kg deadweight. The South West Producer of the Year award was given to father and son, Roy and Troy Stuart from Exeter, Devon.

St Merryn were very please to welcome not one but two representatives from Tesco as guests at the show, John Driscoll, Tesco Red Meat Buyer, and Alice Pattinson, Tesco Agricultural Manager. At the presentation of awards John Driscoll spoke directly to the Producer Club members, giving them an update of the red meat industry at present. Also reinforcing the message that good relationships and communication between Tesco, St Merryn and their Producer Club members helps to keep a strong consistent supply chain. He concluded, “ We’re asking a lot of St Merryn, we’re asking a lot of you (the producers), we’re asking a lot of ourselves and our customers are asking a lot of us.”

John Dracup, Livestock Director said “ The show is a shop window to demonstrate the quality and consistency of beef produced in the South West of England.” He went on to thank the St Merryn staff for the superb dressing of the carcases.
