Merthyr Beef Carcase Show

St Merryn’s seventh annual beef carcase show at Merthyr Tydfil saw over 180 carcases entered in the six classes. The winner of the overall show champion was awarded to Mr T. A. Hughes of Ceredigion for a homebred Limousin steer. Mr F.C. Garlick took away the prize for Producer of the Year for consistently supplying cattle of a very high quality and his work within the Tesco Sustainable Beef Project.
The judge for the show was Mr Bart Stacey, formally St Merryn’s Managing Director.
In his speech he praised the slaughtermen for the quality of dressing on all of the carcases. He went on to congratulate the Producer Club members for entering an excellent display of carcases, saying they were of exceptionally good shape and colour, and well finished to ensure succulence.
John Dracup, Livestock Director commended all the producers that entered for excelling themselves, bringing cattle of the highest quality year after year.
The day was informative to all producers with stands from Shearwell Data, MHS, MLCS, HCC/MPW and EBLEX offering a range of different services. The MLCS were kind enough to help run our producer quiz and selected the five carcasses for the producers’ grade.
