Environment Pillar

Why?

This is the fastest rising topic of discussion in the world and agriculture.  In particular, bovines are being cited as one of the major pollutants due to production of greenhouse gases, slurry and silage/milk production effluent, poaching, feed miles and water/chemical usage.

All of these issues will be understood through the project, in the context of feeding consumers and looking at solutions that demonstrate environmental best practice. Through the TSDG, it is our collective responsibility to demonstrate the positive impact that farming has had on the countryside and atmosphere.

We know that you are already making a positive contribution to the environment and that changes in support payments now mean that you’ll be assessed on the environmental condition of your land to qualify for your Single Payment.

How?

Tesco’s environmental objectives will shadow current and future regulation, to help you all reach environmentally friendly dairy farming practice.

We are currently collating information about the numerous initiatives you are already involved in, in terms of environmental best practice, such as Entry Level Stewardship (ELS) or similar, to understand where we are as a group, and what the most appropriate first step should be.

Therefore, please don’t hesitate to contact us with you thoughts and suggestions, and we will update you on this important pillar shortly..

Benefit
Costs of achieving environmentally friendly farming practice will be reflected in the cost tracker element of the our milk price.

Welcome
