The Brue Valley has been farmed since the 10th Century and the Clapp family have been farming in the area since the 11th Century. Traditionally a cider making farm, the Clapp family started cheese making in the 1950s. Brothers Bob and Simon are both skilled cheesemakers whilst Bob’s son Rob is responsible for looking after the herd of 440 Holstein-Fresian cows. The head cheese maker is Bill Melluish who was taught the craft by his father who worked at Brue Valley for almost 50 years. 40% of Brue Valley’s production goes into the Tesco Farmhouse cheddar range.
