Joseph Helers

Joseph Heler Ltd., a totally independent, family company, was founded in 1957 and today from Laurels Farm – in the very heart of the Cheshire Countryside – it has grown to become one of the country’s largest producers of British Regional Cheese, making no less than 12,000 tonnes a year. Cutting edge equipment enhances the traditional cheese-making process.
Joseph Heler cheese has secured a wealth of awards for its regional cheese at county shows across the country this year. The UK’s largest independent producer of regional cheese has secured success right across its product portfolio.
Highlights include the Farmhouse Lancashire Federation Trophy for its Lancashire cheese at Cheshire Show and two trophies for its farmhouse Wensleydale cheese at Nantwich International Cheese Show.
Success also included:
- First for its Wensleydale and Traditional Cheshire, second for its Lancashire and Caerphilly and third for its Cheshire at the Bath and West Show;
- First for the company’s Acid Lancashire and Hatherton, second for its Cheese Board and third for its Cheshire at the Cheshire Show;
- The best Territorial Cheese Award for its traditional white Cheshire at the 148th Great Yorkshire Show at Harrogate.
In addition the company has also received gold for its Double Gloucester, Wensleydale and Hatherton, Silver for its Blue Cheshire and Bronze for Caerphilly and Cheshire at The World Cheese Awards.
Commenting on the success, Joseph Heler director Mark Beavon said: “These awards are very important to everyone at Joseph Heler. We are a family run business and it’s a real team effort to ensure all our products are made to the highest standard. Products selected for these shows are taken from our standard production line and are a true reflection of a Joseph Heler Cheese.
“Cheese is judged on several criteria – not just its flavour but also its colour, texture and smell and we have been delighted with the comments our cheese has been receiving at these shows. We are especially pleased this year that Hatherton has received such a positive response – this cheese has only recently been launched and is a clear indication that it is going to have a strong following.”
